Introduction

Holder - Portfolio Tracker is a mobile app that helps users track the value of their assets in real time. The app allows users to add a variety of assets, including stocks, cryptocurrencies, and real estate, and see the current value of their portfolio at a glance.

The purpose of this case study is to document the development of the Holder app and discuss the challenges and successes of the project.

Background

There's hundreds of various apps that help users track the value of their investments. However, none of them could track all the possible asset types: Stocks, Currencies, Crypto, Bonds, Real Estate etc.

We decided to change this, and began working on Holder. We started developing it in early 2020, with the goal of releasing the app later that year.

Objectives and Goals

The main goal of the Holder app is to provide users with a convenient and accurate way to track the value of their assets. The app's key features include:

  • The ability to add a variety of assets, including stocks, cryptocurrencies, and real estate
  • Real-time tracking of portfolio value
  • Customizable homepage widgets with various insights about user's assets
  • Customizable alerts for when the value of a particular asset reaches a certain threshold

The success of Holder will be measured by user engagement and satisfaction, as well as metrics such as the number of downloads and the average time users spend in the app.

Development Process

The Holder team used an agile development methodology for the project, with weekly sprints and regular check-ins to review progress and make adjustments as needed.

Key milestones during the development process included:

  • The completion of initial wireframes and user flows
  • The development of the app's core functionality, including the ability to add and track assets
  • The implementation of real-time tracking and alerts
  • User testing and feedback

The app was released to the public in October 2020, after several months of development and testing.
